71On September 20, the Zhejiang leg of the “Smart Competition for the Future—The First Intelligent Robot Application Skills Expo,” organized by China Media Group, kicked off in Hangzhou. The event showcased more than 300 intelligent robots and presented multiple real-world application scenarios through integrated air-to-ground demonstrations.

The LIUGONG 922FE autonomous electric excavator made its debut in the designated skills demonstration area. As a flagship product in the field of autonomous construction machinery, the machine showcased its precision, safety, and intelligent operational capabilities through live on-site demonstrations.
Multi-Sensor Fusion Enables Autonomous Operation
During the demonstration, the LIUGONG 922FE operated without a driver in the cab. Relying on multi-sensor fusion technology—including lidar, visual perception, and inertial navigation—the machine autonomously completed operational processes such as excavation, rotation, precise unloading, and site grading.
It is reported that the LIUGONG 922FE is primarily designed for applications in earthmoving, ports, and tunnels, and can meet operational requirements across various construction environments.
Related unmanned technologies can also be applied to large and ultra-large excavators in mining operations. In open-pit mining scenarios, the equipment can replace manual labor to perform cyclic operations such as excavation, stripping, and loading, thereby reducing the need for personnel to enter high-risk work areas. During nighttime operations and in extreme environments—such as high temperatures or extreme cold—the equipment can continue working, improving construction efficiency and alleviating the shortage of construction machinery operators.
Furthermore, the equipment can be integrated into a fleet dispatch system to enable coordinated operations among multiple machines, further driving the transition from traditional construction sites to intelligent construction models.
Building a Technical Framework for Unmanned Construction Machinery
Unmanned excavators are part of LIUGONG’s strategic layout for unmanned technology. After years of research and development, LIUGONG has established a comprehensive unmanned technology framework encompassing “intelligent perception, intelligent decision-making, and automatic execution.”
Currently, these technologies have been applied to multiple product series, including loaders, excavators, road rollers, and wide-body trucks. Unmanned operation solutions have also been implemented in scenarios such as concrete batching plants, highway construction, and hydropower plant construction.

This debut at the first Intelligent Robot Application Skills Expo further showcases LIUGONG’s technological achievements in the field of unmanned construction machinery. In the future, LIUGONG will continue to advance the research, development, and application of unmanned technologies, providing more solutions for the intelligent upgrade of the construction machinery industry.
